Iliana Ilieva was born on 08.04.1969 in the town of Vratsa, Bulgaria. She graduated from Constantine-Cyril the Philosopher National High School for Ancient Languages and Culture, Sofia, then she studied Russian Philology and History at Sofia University, where she defended a thesis on Church Slavonic language. Iliana lives and works in Sofia. She the author of A Frog’s Jump - a book of poetry, containing three-line poems, haiku, tanka, ala-renga (2004 - Publishing Workshop "AB" - Sofia), You, who hacked the planet (2008 – Publishing House The Book - Varna) and Penta and Pijo. Small and yet smaller Songs (2009 – Publishing House The Book - Varna).
She’s got publications in Bulgarian and electronic periodicals, in the world haiku anthology The Road (2004), in Moscow Almanac Haikumena-2 (2004) and Haikumena-3 (2005) in Romanian, Macedonian and Serbian editions of haiku, literature and culture, in international electronic journal: Аромат востока (The Fragrance of East), Улитка (A Smile), haiku.ru, worldhaiku.net, Simply Haiku, Makata, Shamrock, erunsmagazine, the Austrian bilingual magazine Chrysanthemum. .
Iliana is the First Prize Winner in the haiku section in the Bulgarian language at the International Competition on "Haiku in music - music in haiku" organized by the Bulgarian Haiku Club, supported by Rock and Jazz Zone, a program of Horizon Bulgarian National Radio), an honorary diploma from the Fifth International Contest for haiku in Italian "Cascina Macondo" (2007), First Prize in Haiku Contest Melnik evenings of Poetr" (2009); she is a laureate of many national poetry competitions, a Member of the Bulgarian Haiku Union and of Haiku Club – Sofia, an editor in the LiterNet ezine.
Maya Lyubenova was born in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, and teaches English in Philip Kutev National School of Folk Arts – Kotel. Maya writes poetry in English and Bulgarian, her free verse poetry, visual poems, haiku and haiga have been published Frogpond, The World Haiku Review, Shamrock Haiku Journal, Moonset, Haigaonline, Sketchbook- a Journal for Eastern and Western Short Forms, 3Lights Gallery, Gean Tree Press,The Haiku Foundation etc. In the April issue 2009 of the World Haiga Contest, the Jury named Maya Lyubenova WHA Master Haiga Artist, and in May 2009 her haiku won the first prize in the Second National Haiku Contest in Bulgaria. Maya’s bilingual haiku collection Flecks of Blue was published in March, 2010.
